AVALANCHE PREPAREDNESS
IN THE BACKCOUNTRY
We kick off our third season with three action packed
stories in one show. Snow avalanches only occur out west right?
Think again. How many people realize there have been 15 snow avalanches
in the Park since 1975 with one in 2002 having deadly consequences?
We travel with a DEC Forest Ranger to Avalanche Pass in the High
Peaks to discuss avalanche awareness. Next we talk with 2 avid
“slide skiers/snowboarders” of these areas and finish
with an interview with an ice rescue instructor as she shows us
what to do if you fall through the ice. Here is a tip, it is the
opposite of what you think!

THE ENDANGERED SPRUCE GROUSE
We travel deep into the northern reaches of the Park
with a DEC Wildlife Biologist and SUNY Potsdam Professor in search
of the elusive, endangered and beautiful spruce grouse. Less than
200 spruce grouse exist within the Park but we are able to locate
them and take about this birds range, habitat and future. We follow
that with a visit the North Country Wild Care, an all volunteer
group of dedicated professional who care for animals that have
been injured and see them through to recovery.

FISHING THE SALMON RIVER
PART 2
After an unbelievable day last season on the
Salmon River near Malone we head back with Guide Nick Coppola
of Jones Outfitters in Lake Placid to see if we can do it again.
We put a ;little twist in this show as we try and take the mystery
out of flyfishing by focusing on the basics of casting and reading
water. We also bring to light a very real threat to every river
in New York State and elsewhere, Didymo, otherwise known as Rock
Snot.

INTERNATIONAL PAPERS JOHN
DILLON PARK
This show is very dear to us in that it provides
the disabled with an opportunity to get out and fully enjoy the
wild Adirondacks we often speak about.
If I had to describe one show we have done that will
hopefully touch the lives of many viewers it is this one as we
travel to just north of Long Lake to visit a very special place.
Until recently a real wilderness experience was inaccessible to
people with disabilities but not any more. International Paper,
Paul Smiths College, the Town of Long Lake and the State of New
York work together to realize the dream of former International
Paper Chairman John T. Dillon’s vision for an Adirondack
wilderness accessible to everyone with the opening of International
Papers John Dillon Park. It is the first wilderness area in the
country that is designed specifically for people with disabilities
and their caregivers and it is an absolutely incredible place.

BEARS, MOOSE AND WOLVES IN THE BLUE
LINE
With our fishing segments
over for the year we decide to take a look at all the BMW’s
in the Park. No not the famous car company but bears, moose and
wolves. It is a fascinating show as we are joined by Ken Kogut
Regional Wildlife Manager and Ed Reed Wildlife Biologist of the
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. With
the ever increasing number of moose collisions, bear confrontations
and the possibility of wolf sightings this show has it all. Our
tip is on the type and use of bear canisters.

BUYING LAND AND
BUILDING A HOME IN THE ADIRONDACK PARK-PART 1
This is the first of a two part show and in this
show we highlight the importance of doing your homework and following
the steps we outline if you plan on purchasing land and/or building
a home here in the Park. It is certainly not like in your local
area as here you have to work with the Adirondack Park Agency
(who has jurisdiction over everything here in the Park), the Department
of Environmental Conservation as well as the Adirondack Land Trust/Nature
Conservancy and then your local town you may be in. While this
all may seem quite daunting it is necessary and we will walk you
through it. We will also go on a “saw dust” tour at
the Original Lincoln Logs factory in Chestertown NY. And set the
stage for the next show

BUILDING THAT LOG
HOME OF YOUR DREAMS PART 2
On this show we will go through the same process
we went through when we selected Lincoln Logs as our home supplier.
We will meet the people there and walk through the steps from
concept, design, delivery and construction of our log home. When
they say at Lincoln Logs “we don’t just deliver you
a home we deliver you your dream” they mean it as this is
truly a dream come true. We will take you on a “this new
house” tour from design and actual construction and completion
We will meet with the builder and work with them as they constructs
our log home.
You will want to stay with us through both shows.
